Below is a list of the open positions that 901 Ummah has available in the marketing department and its five committees. We have provided an explanation of each position’s role and responsibilities, term length, requirements, and time commitment.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

Marketing Department

 

Creative Videographer/Photographer

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Videography/cinematography experience is preferred

    • Must have professional-quality camera and understand how to use it

  • Time Commitment: 3 hours/week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Develop ideas for video content, campaigns, event promotions – MIST, Retreat, what is 901 Ummah?

    • Pitch creative video ideas to the 901 Ummah team

    • Write, direct, shoot, produce, and edit 901 promotional videos/documentaries

    • Plan, shoot, and edit photography needs for 901 Ummah

    • Think creatively & strategically to produce engaging content

    • Organize and maintain 901 Ummah’s photography library

    • Train volunteers on event photography

    • Edit pictures via photoshop, lightroom

    • Actively work with the marketing team to execute 901 Ummah’s photography needs

 

Graphic Designer (2 positions)

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Experience in graphic design and content creation

    • Familiarity with Canva, and/or photoshop

  • Time Commitment: 3 hours/week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate on creating a wide range of graphics that may include event flyers, presentations, internal communication, newsletters, etc.

    • Translate team’s graphic ideas into high-quality design

    • Manage the uploading process of all graphic material

 

Social Media Manager

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Experience in social media account management, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

    • Knowledge of social media algorithms and trends is preferred

  • Time Commitment: 3 hours/week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Develop, implement, and manage our social media strategy for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

    • Post creative, engaging, and relevant content

    • Measure the success of social media campaigns

    • Stay up to date with latest social media best practices and technologies

    • Work with the marketing team to curate a-community engaging social media profile for 901 Ummah

    • Ensure that all events and programs are advertised on each platform

 

Merchandising Specialist

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Experience with merchandising and apparel is preferred

  • Time Commitment: 3 hours/week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with marketing team in designing 901 Ummah merch

    • Monitor apparel sales and identify any losses or stock wastage

    • Work with suppliers and distributors to negotiate prices and order large volumes of merch

    • Work with the financial manager to handle merch revenue

 

Committees

 

Community Service Committee

Purpose: As an organization that has benefited immensely by virtue of being located in Memphis, 901 Ummah strongly believes in serving the Memphis community that has allowed it to flourish. To do so, the community service committee organizes service events including Feed the City, community clean-ups, Thanksgiving drives, etc. that cater to the needs of Memphis and Memphians. Committee members are expected to be in tune with the needs of Memphis and Memphians and develop events that will have a positive impact locally.

 

Community Service Committee Chair

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a college student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and lead bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must have prior community service experience and knowledge of the needs of the community

  • Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Train committee members on how to organize and develop beneficial service events in the Memphis community

    • Manage committee logistics

    • Lead committee meetings and coach committee members through event organization

    • Participate in at-large 901 meetings and present the committee’s top priorities and planned events

    • Report to the executive council on the committee’s work in the community each quarter

 

Community Service Committee Member (2 positions)

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a high school student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must be interested in community service and dedicated to 901 Ummah’s values

  • Time Commitment: 10 hours per month

  • Responsibilities:

    • Brainstorm, develop, and organize at least one community service event per month

    • Attend community service committee events

    • Attend and participate in monthly 901 meetings and bi-weekly community service committee meetings

 

Knowledge and Islamic Education Committee

Purpose: At the root of 901 Ummah’s mission is our dedication to ensuring that young Muslims have a genuine understanding of and love for Islam. The Knowledge and Islamic Education committee offers regular Islamic education programming intended to teach young Muslims to think critically about Islam and to grapple with modern day issues relevant to this generation.

Events include halaqa conversations, Qiyam nights, outside speaker lectures, etc…

 

Knowledge and Islamic Education Committee Chair

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a college student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must have prior Islamic education and awareness of the needs and questions that young Muslims have regarding Islam

  • Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Train committee members on how to organize and develop beneficial, compelling, and engaging educational events for the youth

    • Organize educational workshops featuring inspiring speakers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives

    • Manage committee logistics

    • Lead committee meetings and coach committee members through event organization

    • Participate in at-large 901 meetings and present the committee’s top priorities and planned events

    • Report to the executive council on the committee’s work in the community each quarter

 

Knowledge and Islamic Education Committee Member (2 positions)

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a high school student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must be interested in Islamic knowledge and education and dedicated to 901 Ummah’s values

  • Time Commitment: 10 hours per month

  • Responsibilities:

    • Brainstorm, develop, and organize at least one religious/educational event per month

    • Attend community service committee events

    • Attend and participate in monthly 901 meetings and bi-weekly community service committee meetings

 

Arts and Talent Acquisition (ATA) Committee

Purpose: With a mission to inspire, create, and empower, 901 Ummah promotes cultivating the beautiful, hidden talents in the Memphis Muslim community. In the absence of opportunities to challenge oneself by going outside of one’s comfort zone, talents go unnoticed or disregarded. To prevent that, the Arts and Talent Acquisition Committee offers regular multimedia art and talent events to promote creativity and long-lasting bonds with individuals with similar interests. Events include Bluff City Art & Poetry Slam, Picnic & Painting, 901 Creations, St. Jude Art Auctions, etc…

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a college student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must have a passion for art and talent acquisition

  • Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Train committee members on how to organize and host events in a productive, time-efficient way.

    • Manage committee logistics

    • Collaborate with committee team members to organize at least 4 events per year

    • Lead committee meetings and coach committee members through event organization

    • Participate in at-large 901 meetings and present the committee’s top priorities and planned events

    • Report to the executive council on the committee’s work in the community each quarter

 

Arts and Talent Acquisition Committee Member (2 positions)

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a high school student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must be passionate about art and self-expression

    • Must be dedicated to 901 Ummah’s values

  • Time Commitment: 10 hours per month

  • Responsibilities:

    • Brainstorm, develop, and organize at least 4 events per year as a team

    • Attend ATA committee events

    • Attend and participate in monthly 901 meetings and bi-weekly ATA committee meetings

 

Civic Engagement (CE) Committee

Purpose: As Muslims, we are taught to be conscious of how our actions affect the environment and the global community we inhabit. Whether it is issues regarding climate change, social justice, human rights, etc., we believe that it is our responsibility as Muslims to advocate for a more just, equitable, and healthier world. The civic engagement committee organizes campaigns and events that encourage the Memphis Muslim community to become better stewards of the land we reside on and the community we are a part of. Campaigns include encouraging Memphis mosques to recognize the historical connections of the land they’re built to Native American tribes, advocating for recycling and waste reduction in Muslim institutions, etc…

 

Civic Engagement Committee Chair

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a college student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must have a passion for civic engagement and social activism and be able to think creatively about how to engage the Muslim community with pressing issues

  • Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Train committee members on how to organize and develop beneficial, compelling, and engaging civic engagement campaigns and events

    • Manage committee logistics

    • Lead committee meetings and coach committee members through event organization

    • Participate in at-large 901 meetings and present the committee’s top priorities and planned events

    • Report to the executive council on the committee’s work in the community each quarter

 

Civic Engagement Committee Member (2 positions)

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a high school student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must be passionate about social justice and approaching activism through an Islamic lens

    • Must be dedicated to 901 Ummah’s values

  • Time Commitment: 10 hours per month

  • Responsibilities:

    • Brainstorm, develop, and organize at least 4 campaigns per year as a team

    • Attend CE committee events

    • Attend and participate in monthly 901 meetings and bi-weekly ATA committee meetings

 

Community Building (CB) Committee

Purpose: As an organization dedication to the Ummah or Muslim community, community building is embedded within our name, purpose, and mission. We believe that fostering a sense of belonging among youth is of utmost importance. The community building committee organizes monthly events to support the 901 Ummah and promote social connection amongst members to establish fun and fellowship. Examples of community building events include bonfires, board game nights, ice cream socials, grill and chill and hiking trips. Community Building committee members should be connected and receptive to new ideas and methods to engage community members.

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a college student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must have a passion for community and team building

  • Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

  • Responsibilities:

    • Train committee members on how to create events that foster social connection and belonging

    • Manage committee logistics

    • Lead committee meetings and coach committee members through event organization

    • Participate in at-large 901 meetings and present the committee’s top priorities and planned events

    • Report to the executive council on the committee’s work in the community each quarter

 

Community Building Committee Member (2 positions)

  • Term Length: 1 year

  • Requirements:

    • Must be a high school student or older

    • Must be able to attend at-large monthly meetings and bi-weekly committee meetings

    • Must have the creativity and passion to organize social events that bring out new and diverse faces

    • Must be dedicated to 901 Ummah’s values

  • Time Commitment: 10 hours per month

  • Responsibilities:

    • Brainstorm, develop, and organize at least 1 event per month as a team

    • Attend CB committee events

    • Attend and participate in monthly 901 meetings and bi-weekly CB committee meetings
